Lessons from Assess and Assist
Christian Aid’s Lessons from Assess and Assist report explores how a locally led cash assistance approach has supported people across Ukraine since the early days of the full scale invasion.
Assess and Assist (A&A) gives local and national actors the freedom to design flexible, person centred support that address urgent and often complex needs. Drawing on data from more than 10,800 cases and detailed discussions with 11 partner organisations, the report highlights how A&A has filled critical gaps left by existing humanitarian systems, enabled people to meet their own priorities with dignity and revealed the challenges and opportunities of devolving decision making to partners.
The findings offer valuable insights not only for the ongoing Ukraine response but for the wider humanitarian sector as it seeks approaches that are more adaptive, context specific and accountable to the people they aim to serve.
