Climate change, food security and hunger: Christian Aid Kenya's impact

This report explores the critical impacts of climate change on food security and hunger in Marsabit County, Kenya, and assesses Christian Aid Kenya's interventions to mitigate these effects.

The study assesses the impacts of climate change on livelihoods, health, and crop production, highlighting community adaptation strategies and indigenous knowledge systems. Key findings reveal widespread food insecurity, livestock loss, crop failure, malnutrition, and increased vulnerability among women, children, and the elderly.

The findings also indicate that Christian Aid's interventions, including cash transfers, social protection, support for climate-resilient livelihoods, and advocacy for inclusive water governance, have had positive but still limited impacts due to scale and resource constraints. Despite challenges including weak awareness of county climate financing structures, inadequate public participation, and under-resourced governance systems, the report underscores the role of locally-led adaptation and community engagement in building resilience.

It recommends strengthening climate-smart agricultural practices, enhancing public awareness and participation in climate governance, increasing investments in community-led adaptation, and scaling up effective interventions.
