As Christians, we're called to love our neighbours, to seek justice and to be salt and light in the world. For many of us, that calling is lived out in the everyday choices we make - in our kindness, our service, our generosity and our commitment to the welfare of others.
But there's also a question worth gently asking ourselves: what good might continue beyond my lifetime?
That question has been important to me. It's one of the reasons I chose to include Christian Aid in my Will.
Why I chose to leave a gift
As a trustee and as a Legacy Champion on the Board, I've had the privilege of seeing the difference gifts in Wills make to our broken world. They help ensure that Christian Aid can continue standing alongside communities facing poverty, injustice and crisis - not just today, but for generations to come.
During Remember A Charity Week (7–13 September 2026), charities across the UK come together to encourage people to think about leaving a gift in their Will, once family and loved ones have been provided for.

Taking the first step to writing a Will
I know that writing or updating a Will can feel like something you can put off. It can seem complicated, costly or emotionally difficult. Yet it's also one of the most practical and responsible things you can do. It gives clarity to those we love and it allows us to make choices that reflect what mattered most in our lives.
A gift in a Will does not need to be large to make a difference. It could be a fixed sum, or a small percentage of an estate, which is what many of our supporters choose to do. This means loved ones are cared for first, while Christian Aid receives a gift that keeps its value over time and helps sustain our work in the future.
A legacy of gratitude
For me, including Christian Aid in my Will is a way of expressing gratitude for all I've received and hope for those who will come after me.
It's a way of saying that my commitment to justice, dignity and human welfare does not end with my lifetime.
This Remember A Charity Week, I'd encourage each of us to reflect on the causes closest to our hearts, the values that've shaped our lives and the kind of legacy we'd like to leave.
For me, Christian Aid is part of that legacy.
